Title: When She Cries Chapter Two: Sweet Charade
Who knows where you been/You take all your lies/And wish them all away/I somehow doubt/We'll ever be the same/There's too much poison/And confusion on your face. Lola brushed back a piece of her dark blonde hair, tugged on her orange sundress before opening the door to reveal Devon Mariano standing there. This was one of the Mariano children she could stand. “Dev!” She launched herself into his arms, and locked her legs around his waist. “Lo,” He kissed her on the nose. “I was in town because I heard Dallie choose to stay in Connecticut instead of New York, and from him I head you were also in town.” “Excellent detective work, darling,” Lola grinned as he set her down, she pulled her dress down again. “Orange?” Devon studied her dress for a moment. “I can see why Augusta gets so jealous.” He was referring to the oldest of the siblings, and the only female child Paris and Jess had. “You get away with everything.” “Including pissing your brother off,” Lola said as she sat down on the couch and Devon joined her. “He’s so much short tempered than he use to be.” “Speaking of short…” He gave her a pointed looked. “Your attention span is going to start setting records soon.” “Oh. Did Dallie tell you about the track guy?” She twirled a piece of hair around her finger, wrinkling her nose at the straightness of it. She’d have to crimp it or wave it soon. “There was a track guy?” Lola nodded, releasing the strand of hair. “He was cute.” “Of course.” “Great taste in clothing.” “Gay?” She threw a pillow at him. “No. Great hair.” “Are you sure?” “Nice.” “Well that explains why it didn’t last long,” Devon half-teased, since it was mostly true. Somehow the nice guys were shown the door a hell of a lot faster than the assholes. Lola rolled her eyes, “You’re boring me now. Go bother Luke and Dallie.” Devon chuckled, a nice and warm sound. She studied him under lowered lashes; he had sandy blonde hair but dark eyes like his father. His shoulders were broad from working out and playing football from infancy and up. Lola especially loved his lips. Devon pulled her over so that she was sitting on his lap. “You’re such a petulant child.” Lola shifted her position so that she was facing him and straddling his lap. Thrusting her plump lower lip out, she said, “Not exactly a child.” Devon’s gaze moved downwards involuntarily as he shook his head. “Not at all.” She grinned as her head bent down and captured his lips in a kiss. He resisted at first but his mouth opened, accepting her kiss as her hips grounded into his. He let her dominant, pressing him into the couch as they lay down. Lola nipped his lip before moving down to his neck. Or at least that’s what she was going to do except for the foreboding sound of footsteps coming up the stairs. Lola groaned and got off Devon and the couch. “Shit,” Devon muttered sitting up. “No such thing as an innocent meeting with you, eh?” She just grinned as she smoothed back her hair and went to greet whoever was the door. “Grams!” Lola exclaimed. “Mom never said you were coming today.” “That’s because I like creating surprises,” Lorelai looked past her granddaughter to Devon. “Hey Dev, how’s college?” Devon squirmed, “Fine. I like it. Spring break is here and all and I wanted to see Uncle Luke and all.” “And all of Uncle Luke is all the way over at, you wouldn’t believe it, Luke’s,” Lorelai said with false cheerfulness with a smile to match it. Seeing his way out, Devon forced a nod. “Nice seeing you again, Lorelai. I’ll be sure to give Luke my best.” “You do that,” She kept the grin on her face until he left, before turning to Lola. “‘How’s college?’ I really should have been asking, ‘how was it under my granddaughter’s dress?’” Lola just shook her head, “You’re being melodramatic.” She sighed heavily before disappearing into her room. Dallie didn’t look up as his older brother sat next to him at the counter. But Devon didn’t talk at first so he finally gave a sideway glance at him. He looked flushed. “What’d you do?” Dallie asked finally. “Nothing.” Dallie raised an eyebrow, “Dev, you’ve been blushing. You never blush.” “It’s windy outside,” Devon stated matter of factly. “And what are you doing, sitting here? I know Stars Hollow is lacking in the social scene but isn’t there anyone here for you to hang out with?” He shook his head, noting his brother’s change in subject. “Just Lola. But we’re never on the best of terms. Ever.” “Yeah,” Devon looked around. “Well I’m going to head upstairs. Feeling tired. Jet lag and all.” Dallie just nodded as his brother sprinted up the stairs. Things were getting weirder and weirder around here.
